Liron's Workshops:
Dumset - The Middle-Eastern Drumset - Saturday 2pm-4pm in Room A
The DUmset is a setup comprised of a dumbek (played traditionally), 2 Middle Eastern
drums played with foot pedals (bass dumbek and Riq-snare), and hand cymbals. It was developed by
Liron in his creative search to combine his passion for western drumset playing with his love of
Middle Eastern rhythms and the dumbek. Students can either bring their own DUmsets (available at
dumset.com) or just bring a dumbek (or similar hand drum) and tap their feet on the floor.
Topics covered in the DUmset workshop:
- basic dumbek technique
- coordination and independence, starting from very basic level and up
- learn to sound like an entire percussion section
- learn to play drumset rhythms (i.e. rock I hip hop I drum n bass I jungle) and Middle
Eastern rhythms (i.e. maksum I malfuf I karsilama) alongside each other
- relaxation and posture so as to stay comfortable for a length of time.
Here's a video of Liron's DUmset playing.
Shake My A** - Dancer/Drummer Communication - Sunday 11am-1pm in Room B
This workshop, aimed towards both dancers and drummers (or other live musicians), will touch on the magical connection between the two and how to best read each other and communicate, both verbally and non-verbally.
Starting to move or 'shake it' when we hear a sweet beat is a natural and instinctual reaction we all have - we will focus on that natural approach, find your personal connection to the music and how to communicate it to others.
